With the popularity of Instagram and its usefulness to promote bloggers and other online entrepreneurs, Comes the need for large quantities of images to Post, and the most efficient way to get them is to arrange for a full or half-day shoot to generate sufficient images for a month or a season.

This has become such an important thing in the US that I am preparing to offer a subscription service for companies/entrepreneurs that are trying to promote themselves on social media.

Here is a list of tips to help you get the most out of this emerging form of commercial photography.

  1. Plan ahead, The better you understand what you need The more you can get done on the day of your shoot.
  2. Pack accordingly, Pack accordingly, use a small travel suitcase to hold changes of outerwear and hair/make up accessories.
  3. Used Pinterest to create a mood board, this will help your photographer to understand exactly what you are needing and help them plan ahead.
  4. Create a list of locations that fit your desired look. Coffee shops, libraries, and public spaces are all fair game. Make sure to get the approval of any shop owners or property owners before using a business as your backdrop.
  5. Have a backup plan in case of bad weather, natural lighting is often the most flattering but it is also the least controllable.
  6. Build your promotion and social media schedule first, then shoot to support that.
  7. Give your best self for the photographer to work with, make sure that you get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water in the days before you were shooting, this will save a lot of time in Photoshop.
  8. Hire a hair and makeup artist, you and your photographer will have plenty to do if you were taking this seriously and professional make-up does wonders on camera.

Ultimately, a Half-day photography session should yield about 200+ usable photos with 2–4 settings, 2–3 different outfits, and a range of lighting styles… that is enough images to post daily for an entire quarter without stepping foot in front of a camera again.
